Education:Bachelor Degree in Medical Science or other related field
Experience:Minimum of five (5) years experience in patient-related services.
Job Descriptions / Responsibilities:
- Explain the different aspects of genetics to the families such as inheritance patterns, clinical and test procedures, reproductive/prevention options, and risk of occurrence/ reoccurrence.
- Provide supportive counseling to families, serve as patient advocates, and refer individuals and families to Geneticists, if the need arises; serve as educators and resource people for other health care professionals and for the general public.
- Document the counseling sessions and update the database.
- Review charts and obtain references of the existing and new patients and their family members, if required.
- Coordinate genetic tests and other required and necessary procedures.
- Call for immediate follow up appointment families with abnormal results (chromosomal, molecular, metabolic & newborn screening).
- Refer patients and their families to the appropriate educational materials, support groups and other community resources.
- Work closely with colleagues, internal and external health care providers and other agencies to ensure a continuity of care through counseling, testing and follow-ups.
- Participate in the ongoing educational and professional development activities of the Genetics Program.
- Engage in the research activities related to the medical genetics and genetic counseling.
- Perform other job related duties as required.
