Job Descriptions / Responsibilities:

• To conform to all laboratory policies and procedures of the organization, and the guidelines for Universal Precautions and other hospital regulations.
• To demonstrate positive interpersonal skills with patients, laboratory allied health staff, physicians and other hospital/clinical staff members.
• To explain test procedures to the patient such as Electroencephalography (EEG), Nerve Conduction Study (NCS), Electromyography (EMG), Evoked Potentials (EP, BAER, YEP and SSEP) and Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU).
• To check the patient's medical records for orders and special needs with particular attention to patient's pacemakers and defibrillators.
• To demonstrate knowledge of the peripheral nervous system, disease related to electro diagnostic medicine, instrumentation, basic electronics and electrical safety.
• To operate specialized equipment, measure and record electrical activity of the brain and nervous system.
• To be responsible for taking medical histories, preparing patient for the test, and applying electrodes to the patient's head to measures differences in amplitude and frequency of electrical brain waves; and making notes on the recorded graph to identify the interference.
• To prepare a written report of the tracing for the physician; monitor the patient during the procedure and maintain the diagnostic unit to ensure accurate testing and diagnoses.
