      Position Title: Manager Legal Affair

      Position Based In: Karachi - Pakistan

      Education: LLB A Master’s degree and enrollment as an Advocate of the Supreme court as well as Barrister-at-Law would be added advantages. Enrollment as an Advocate of the High Court.

      Experience: 7-10 years relevant legal experience, preferably in a senior position within a corporate or institutional setting.

      Job Descriptions / Responsibilities:

      • Manager, Legal Affairs, will perform the functions of an in-house legal adviser and assist the Head of Legal Affairs in all matters entrusted to the Legal Office of the University, ensuring that these are addressed in an effective, timely and comprehensive manner.
      • She/he will work in a complex educational and research led institution of higher learning with multiple internal constituencies and departments, including the network of hospitals which serve as teaching sites.
      • This is a management position where the incumbent is expected to play a proactive role in monitoring legislation and handling legal issues that have implications on AKU’s operations, nationally and internationally.
      • Specific responsibilities will include:
        • Preparation of legal opinions.
        • Drafting agreements and other documents.
        • Ensuring regulatory compliance.
        • Handling various areas of law including corporate, taxation, banking, land, construction, employment, intellectual property, higher education, medical and litigation.
        • Interacting with government departments, agencies and regulatory bodies.
        • Conducting legal research.
        • Attending management or other meetings as required.
        • Do such other things as the senior leadership may direct.
      • Provide guidance and act as a lead in matters related to discipline and administration of the statutory requirements.
      • Liaise with government agencies for employee relations activities.
      • Supervise holding of independent enquiry in respect of discipline cases as and when required.
      • Monitoring grievance handling of respective cases raised by employee / department.
      • Handle employee grievances and provide assistance and guidance in line with the policy.
      • Keeping management abreast about latest updates of employee relations.
      • Oversee monthly/annual reports in respect of employee relations.
